RinkFunder.

RinkFunder helps cash strapped communities quickly fund skating rinks.  Community skating rinks or minor hockey association practice rinks can be virtually any size. A good starter size however is 40ft x 80ft. This is the size that RinkFunder has based the community crowdfunding skating rink project on. With this size, the community can have up to 75 skaters using the surface at any given time. Its also a reasonably affordable size and also one small enough where every motivated community can find a space well suited to install a SmartRink.  You need to fill out the application on the RinkFunder site. Good Hockey Game Everyone.

Posted by Dean Sprung on

My younger son's team recently played in game three of a playoff series where his team received about 40 minutes of penalties.  The opposing team received about 12 minutes.  This was excessive compared to the previous two games where about 8 minutes in penalties were handed out.  While there were obvious infractions, neither team's style of play warranted being short handed most of the game.   Some refs can really make a game exciting and others somehow find themselves in the spotlight. It occurred to me that entire town had subsidized our skate through their tax dollars. Whether they liked skating or not, they were...

Synthetic Ice - 100% Skateability Factor

Posted by Dean Sprung on

Having sold synthetic ice for over 7 years now, I've often heard or read comments from people that "it's not the same as real ice" or "it's 80 to 90 percent the glide factor of regular ice" or "it's like ice in the 2nd period". The resistance or friction of synthetic ice is slightly more than that of traditional ice but it does not take long for any skater to adapt to synthetic ice and have hours of fun skating or playing hockey on it as you can see in the video. My view is that it has a "100% skateability...
